#3  How much does a video cost?

As you've probably seen, there is a very wide range of costs to produce a corporate video. With freelancers and internal resources, you can get a video made in the hundreds of dollars. There are agencies who won't do anything for less than $50k, and there's everything in between.

Ovation animation projects typically take four to six weeks to complete. Here's how we collaborate with your team at every step to make that awesome video.

#12  How long should a video be?

People often ask us how long a video should be. Well, some people will watch a two and half hour movie and be glued to their seat the whole time.

Other people will watch a short video and be bored after five seconds. So, the real question is, how compelling should a video be to keep the audience's attention?

Analytics are great because they allow us to see statistics about how long people view a video before they drop off. We can study "where they dropped off" and where they were more engaged. Using this knowledge, we can optimize videos by updating content, or breaking the video into multiple chapters.

But, what actually makes a video compelling? The answer has more to do with the viewer than the video. What do they care about?

And in the case of a marketing or sales video, can they relate to the business scenario you're describing?

If you present a challenge that they're currently facing and say you can solve it, you'll have their attention. So, how long should that be? Our experience tells us one to two minutes is ideal for a video like this.

#13  What makes a video compelling?

What makes a video compelling? The answer has more to do with the viewer than the video. What do they care about and in the case of a marketing or sales video, can they relate to the business scenario you're describing? If you present a challenge that they're currently facing and say you can solve it, you'll have their attention. Of course the rest of the video then has to make a clear case.

People first want to know you'll meet their challenge or help them realize an important goal, then they want to know what your solution is and how it works.

After they say to themselves, "Ah, I see that could work", their brains will likely go to, "But how else could I do that? Could I do it myself, or what do competitors offer?" This is when you differentiate your solution and show there's no better way for the viewer to meet their goal.

Then their mind will likely go to, "Okay, but how do I pay for it or get budget approved?". Here is where you present a solid return on investment stating tangible business objectives.

Now they're ready to act, so you present your call to action.

Of course you want the visuals to look great. But visuals have to add to what's being said, not just look cool for the sake of looking cool. This is where a great creative and design team is every bit as important as great writers. When it all comes together with spot on animation, voice, music, and sound effects, the results are stunning. The business benefits are easily measured by increased sales and conversion rates. #14  Animation types (and how they relate to pricing)

Pricing for our animated videos and demos is based on three things:

base cost
length of the video
style of animation

The base cost covers things like creative design, script writing, voice, music, and project management. It is the same for every video. However, when we produce multiple videos as part of a series, we're able to lower or eliminate this cost.

Then we look at the number seconds for each type of animation. For example, is it advanced, meaning 3D or highly detailed custom graphics? Is it moderate? Or is it basic?

The same applies to demo content. It too can be advanced, moderate, or life-like.

Any video or demo could have several of these different types of animation so we look at the number of seconds by type. By applying the animation type rate to the number of seconds, we get the animation cost. That plus the base cost is the total you'll pay.

#15  Change management

Have you ever rented a car for $29 per day only to find you actually paid $119 after all the unexpected fees?

Have you ever had a company quote a low price to build something creative, only to be continually charged for out-of-scope items and change fees? When we founded Ovation Solutions, we vowed to bring transparency and reliability to pricing.

But what happens when changes are needed? It's not uncommon to realize midway through a project that a video will need to go in a different direction, be longer, or use a different style. Of course, we do everything in the discovery phase to flush these things out as early as possible, but in those cases where the scope changes, here's how we address it.

As pricing is based on animation type and length, once we finish a script we'll know the expected length. If we find it's longer than initially expected, we'll let you know as quick as possible so we can either shorten it, or adjust the budget.

Similarly, if we discover that the video will require a more sophisticated animation style, we can get you an estimate of the price difference so you can decide.

The other thing that can impact a budget is number of revisions. We recognize that making a great video requires a lot of feedback and revisions. We build this into all our projects.

However, there are times when the amount of time spent changing things that have already been built reaches a threshold. It's not so much about the number of revisions as it is about the level of effort. We'll keep you closely posted if at any point we begin to approach that threshold.
